A Safer Colorado Springs

Watch the video above to hear directly fromm Retired CSPD officer, Richard Radabaugh, about how critical it is we invest in our training academy and police officers.

We deserve a city where we can count on our neighborhoods being safe and are loved ones are protected. For years our Colorado Springs Police Department has been short dozens of police officers. Vote YES on 2A to expand our police academy and ensure we are finally ending our shortage of police officers.

Showing up for our Police

Colorado Springs has always shown up for our police when it counts. CSPD is short nearly 80 officers, and a new police academy will provide a critical tool to addressing staffing shortages while also providing necessary space for our police force to have the best training available.

And now, our police department is asking for funds for an updated police academy to ensure we address our police staffing shortages, can provide cutting edge training, and we let our officers know we take care of them when they need it most.

Faster response times and safer neighborhoods

Response times in Colorado Springs have risen by almost 2 minutes over the last few years and are closing in on 15 minutes. Those precious minutes can make all the difference in the world when our families are in a time of need. Our rising response times are directly related to a short-staffed police department.

Voting yes on 2A will allow for additional training academies every year that allow for a fully staffed police department. More officers on the streets means a better ability to respond to calls and safer neighborhoods for our families.

Retaining our officers and reducing burnout

The weight of the badge is heavy. Our police officers put their lives on the line every time they put on their uniform, and the job takes a toll. One of the most common reasons police leave the force is because of burnout and high stress. Due to our current police shortage, many of our police are required to work extra shifts and overtime -- thereby increasing their work and stress load.

Voting Yes on 2A will help overcome our police shortage by extending the careers of our police by providing a better work/life balance for our officers – ensuring they avoid burnout while reducing turnover in our police department.

Better preparing our police for the challenges of today’s world.

84% of Colorado Springs police officers indicated their top priority is to receive continuous education training.

Voting YES on 2A will ensure our officers receive cutting edge training on de-escalation, crisis intervention, and ensuring our police are fully prepared to safely defuse situations with individuals experiencing behavioral health crisis, domestic violence, or other situations where the solution is compassion and a connection to helpful resources.
